A PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is essential for various financial transactions, even for minors. Here’s a detailed guide on how to apply for a PAN card for a child under 18 years of age:
What is a Minor PAN Card?
- A PAN card issued for minors is termed a Minor PAN Card.
- It does not include the minor's photograph or signature.
- Once the minor turns 18, it must be updated with their photo and signature.
Eligibility and Rules:
- Parents or guardians apply on behalf of the minor.
- Applicable under Section 160 of the Income Tax Act.
How to Apply for a Minor PAN Card Online:
Step 1: Visit the Official Website
- Go to the NSDL website: https://www.tin-nsdl.com.
Step 2: Start New Application
- Click on "Apply for New PAN".
- Choose "New PAN - Indian Citizen (Form 49A)" from the application type.
- Select "Individual" as the category.
Step 3: Fill in Personal Details
- Enter the minor’s full name, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID.
- Enter the parent’s or guardian’s details, as they will act on behalf of the minor.
Step 4: Submit Basic Information
- Solve the captcha and click Submit.
- A token number will be displayed on the screen. Note it down.
Step 5: Proceed with Application
- Click "Continue with PAN Application Form".
- Choose "Forward application documents physically".
- Fill in the last four digits of the minor's Aadhaar card and other required details.
Step 6: Income and Document Submission
- Enter the family income details.
- Upload necessary documents (Aadhaar card, proof of address, proof of date of birth).
Step 7: Payment
- Pay the processing fee of ₹107 online via credit/debit card, net banking, or UPI.
Step 8: Final Submission
- Once the payment is successful, submit the application.
Documents Required:
- Proof of Identity: Minor’s Aadhaar card.
- Proof of Address: Guardian’s Aadhaar card or other valid address proof.
- Proof of Date of Birth: Birth certificate or school ID of the minor.
Receiving the PAN Card
- After submission, the PAN card will be processed and dispatched.
- It typically arrives at the registered address within 10–15 days.
Note:
Once the minor turns 18, they must update the PAN card with their photo and signature.
