Millions of farmers across the country may soon receive good news, with an expected increase in the PM Kisan instalment.
PM Kisan Yojana: Great news for 130 million farmers. The central government is considering increasing the annual amount of the PM Kisan Yojana from ₹6,000 to ₹12,000. This is likely to be announced in the February 2026 budget, after which an instalment of ₹4,000 could be directly credited to farmers' accounts.
PM Kisan Yojana: Very important and happy news may soon arrive for millions of farmers across the country. The central government is seriously considering a significant increase in the annual amount of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) in the Union Budget to be presented in February 2026. Currently, farmers receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 annually, which is distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000. However, farmers and state governments across the country are demanding that this amount be increased directly from ₹9,000 to ₹12,000 annually.
If this increase reaches ₹12,000, it would directly mean that farmers would receive an instalment of ₹4,000 directly into their bank accounts every four months instead of ₹2,000, which would be a major financial relief for them.
Why could this major decision be made?
The government has always prioritised farmer welfare. The primary objective of the PM Kisan Yojana is to provide direct financial assistance to small and poor farmers for their farming needs. During the lengthy budget formulation process, the Ministry of Finance, NITI Aayog, and other stakeholders jointly suggested that, given the growing needs of farmers, an increase in the amount of assistance provided to them is necessary.
This time, the government is not only considering this increase but is serious about implementing it so that the country's farmers can become more financially strong. This was discussed last time as well, but this time the government may change it.
Who will benefit from the PM Kisan Yojana?
It is important to note that this benefit is only available to eligible farmers. This scheme is available to Indian citizens who are small and medium-sized farmers, who own cultivable land and whose records are registered with the state government.
The eligibility rules for this scheme clearly state that farmers who are in a government job, pay income tax, or have a large business or a large, stable source of regular income are not eligible. The same rules apply to other family members.
How can new farmers join this scheme?
If you are a new farmer and have not yet joined this scheme, you can easily join. You will need to have your Aadhaar card, bank account details, and land documents ready. You can visit your local Panchayat or Gram Sachivalaya, or fill out the online registration form on the state government's official PM Kisan portal. After submitting the form, your application will be verified, and upon completion, you will receive approval to join the scheme via SMS to your registered number.
