Virtual Smart Card: If you are a daily commuter on the Delhi Metro—and let's say you happen to forget to bring your physical card one day—you can now travel using a Virtual Metro Card. This is a digital card that allows passengers to travel on the Metro using their mobile phones, without the need for a physical card or token.
What is a Virtual Smart Card?
It is a digital Metro card created within a mobile app. It functions exactly like a physical Smart Card; the only difference is that it resides on your phone. You can create this card using the "Delhi Metro Sarthi 2.0" app, which is the official application of the Delhi Metro.
Once the card is created, it comes with an initial balance of ₹150, which can be utilized for Metro travel. This card is valid exclusively within the Delhi Metro network; it cannot be used on the Airport Express Line. Clearly, this card is going to prove extremely useful for commuters.
How to Create a Virtual Card
Now, let's find out how to create this Virtual Card. You can do so by following the steps outlined below:
- Download the "Delhi Metro Sarthi 2.0" app on your mobile phone.
- Open the app and either log in or register.
- Now, click on the "Virtual Metro Card" option.
- Next, fill in the necessary details requested.
- Complete the payment process to create the card.
- As soon as you complete these steps, the card will become active within your mobile app.
There is absolutely no difference between this Virtual Card and a physical one; you can use it in exactly the same way. It can be used for both entry into and exit from Metro stations. To enter the Metro, the card must have a minimum balance of ₹40. The fare for your journey is automatically deducted from the card's balance.
What are the Rules for Using the Card? Please keep the following rules in mind while using the service:
- It is essential to perform the entry and exit procedures correctly.
- Please note that the system blocks an amount of ₹40 at the time of entry.
- However, the actual fare is deducted only after the journey is completed.
- In the event of an improper exit, an additional amount of up to ₹30 may be deducted.
- A maximum time limit of 20 minutes is prescribed between entry and exit at a single station; exceeding this time limit may incur an additional charge.
- The card remains valid for a period of 5 years from the date of the last recharge.
- Once the validity period expires, the card will be deactivated, and any remaining balance will not be refunded.
