Metro Train to Start an Hour Late in the Morning; Timetable Changed Starting Today
The metro serves as a city’s lifeline. Any delay in its schedule causes a ripple effect, delaying tasks throughout the day for commuters. Now, a one-hour delay is set to affect this vital transport link.
In any city where it operates, the metro acts as a lifeline; if this lifeline runs late, it disrupts people’s entire daily schedule—especially during the peak festive season of Navratri. Kolkata is currently abuzz with Navratri celebrations, and amidst this, the schedule for one of the city’s metro lines has been altered.
The line in question is Kolkata’s Orange Line; passengers will now find the service starting an hour later than usual. The operational timings for this line were revised effective October 13. This change has been implemented to facilitate trial runs and safety inspections on the new metro section connecting Beleghata and the IT Centre.
New Timetable
According to the new schedule, metro services will start an hour later in the morning and conclude earlier at night. This change is temporary and will remain in effect until the necessary tests are completed. The revised operational timings, effective October 13, are as follows:
- The service, which previously commenced at 7:40 AM, will now start at 8:40 AM.
- The last service of the day, which previously ran until 9:08 PM, will now end at 8:18 PM.
Why Was This Change Made?
The Kolkata Metro Rail administration is conducting trial runs on the new section between Beleghata and the IT Centre. These trials began on October 10 and will continue in the coming days. During this period, checks related to the metro’s signaling system and safety protocols are being carried out, including testing of the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. This technology helps control train movement and ensures safe metro operations.
Completing all these checks is essential to launch regular metro services for passengers on the new section. Currently, the metro administration has not announced a specific date for when the schedule changes will end.
