Metro Rule: If you are planning to travel on the metro with your pet dog, cat, or any other animal, it is important to know the rules first; otherwise, you could face penalties or action.

Metro Pet Rule: Nowadays, most people prefer traveling by metro for work, college, or other commitments, with lakhs of people commuting daily. Many pet owners often wonder whether they can take their pet dogs, cats, or other animals along with them on the metro. If you have a pet, make sure to familiarize yourself with the relevant rules before taking them to a metro station.

What are the rules regarding pets?

According to the regulations of most metro networks in the country—including the Delhi Metro (DMRC)—pets are not permitted inside metro trains or station premises. This restriction applies to dogs, cats, birds, and other domestic animals. To ensure the safety and convenience of all passengers, the general public is not allowed to travel on the metro with their pets.

Why is there a ban?

A large number of people—including children, the elderly, and women—travel on the metro every day. Metro trains can get crowded; the confined environment of the coach might cause animals to become anxious or aggressive, potentially causing distress or inconvenience to other passengers. Furthermore, this rule is enforced to maintain cleanliness and prevent issues such as allergies.

What items are prohibited on the metro?

There are restrictions on carrying several types of items while traveling on the metro. These include:

Knives, scissors, blades, and other sharp weapons.
Petrol, kerosene, gas cylinders, firecrackers, and any flammable substances.
Chemicals or other hazardous materials.
Heavy luggage exceeding the prescribed weight or size limits.
The objective of these rules is to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers. Action may be taken for violating rules

If a person attempts to bring a pet into the metro premises by concealing it in a bag or basket—thereby disregarding the rules—action may be taken against them. In such a situation, metro security personnel can prevent the passenger from traveling, and a fine may also be imposed in accordance with the regulations. Therefore, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the rules before traveling by metro to avoid any inconvenience.
