Facebook Passkey: Meta has now introduced a new and more secure way of login for Facebook users, Passkey. This feature has currently been launched on iOS and Android mobile devices and will soon be added to the Messenger app as well. Passkey is a digital login system that replaces the old password. In this, the user has to use a fingerprint, face ID, or device PIN to log in. This technology has been developed by FIDO Alliance, which aims to improve the security of online accounts.
Passkey is more secure.
Meta says that Passkey technology is much more secure than traditional passwords. It not only protects against phishing attacks and credential theft but also proves to be very strong against hacking techniques like password spraying.
How does this feature work?
Users can set up a Passkey by going to the "Accounts Center" in their Facebook app's Settings. In some cases, this option may be automatically given to the user when logging in. Once the Passkey is set up, logging into Facebook on a mobile device will be even faster and more secure.
Meta plans to use Passkey in many other features in the future, such as Messenger, Meta Pay (to autofill payment information), and to secure encrypted message backups. Although Passkey will become the default login option, users will still be able to log in with a traditional password on devices that do not support it.
Meta's clarification regarding biometric data
Meta has clarified that biometric details such as the user's fingerprint or face data are stored only in the device and the company does not get any information about them. In this way, the user's privacy is also completely protected.
