Major update on Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat: Parcels will now reach their destination within one hour alongside passengers..
A new update has emerged regarding the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat (Rapid Rail) service. This modern train network will now facilitate not only passenger travel but also the rapid transport of goods and express parcels. To this end, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Blue Dart, a leading courier company in the country. The primary objective of this partnership is to expedite and simplify the movement of goods within the Delhi-NCR region.
**Goods to be delivered within one hour**
The corridor connects Delhi and Meerut, enabling travel between the two cities in less than an hour. Consequently, this high-speed rail service will allow couriers and express parcels to be transported from one city to the other within just one hour. However, the "last-mile delivery"—from the station to the customer's doorstep—may take some additional time. Under this arrangement, the Namo Bharat network will be fully integrated with Blue Dart’s delivery system, offering the benefit of ultra-fast delivery to e-commerce companies and the general public.
**Revenue generation from the project**
NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goel stated that significant investment has been made in the Namo Bharat train project. Beyond passenger ticket revenue, commercial earnings from parcel and cargo services will further strengthen the project's financial position. Meanwhile, Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL eCommerce, described the agreement as a major step towards providing superior, super-fast courier services to customers in the NCR region through rail connectivity.
**1.1 lakh passengers traveling daily**
Currently, an average of 1.1 lakh passengers travel daily on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. This corridor connects major transport hubs in Delhi, such as Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar. This project has two large depots; of these, the Duhai depot in Ghaziabad is fully operational, while construction work on the second depot at Modipuram in Meerut is proceeding rapidly.
