FASTag Local Pass News: If you travel daily or frequently through a nearby toll plaza, this news is relevant to you. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a digital local pass facility at 121 toll plazas across the country. The key highlight of this facility is that eligible vehicle owners will no longer need to make repeated trips to the toll plaza to get a local pass, as the service is now available online.
Who can benefit from the FASTag local pass?
The FASTag local pass is primarily intended for vehicle owners who reside within a 20-kilometer radius of the respective toll plaza and commute through it regularly. Previously, such individuals faced various hassles regarding toll payments or obtaining separate passes. Now, however, eligible persons can apply for the local pass online from their homes.
Where did this facility originate?
The digital local pass facility was first introduced in July 2023 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on Delhi's Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Following its successful implementation there, the facility has now been expanded to 121 toll plazas nationwide. However, it is not yet available at every toll plaza; consequently, residents near every toll plaza may not be able to avail of this benefit.
How to get a FASTag local pass from home?
- First, download the 'Rajmarg Yatra' app.
- Log in to your account and select the 'FASTag Local Pass' option.
- Select the specific toll plaza for which you require the pass.
- Enter the necessary details as requested. Next, complete the digital verification process.
- Once verification is successful, the local pass will be linked to your FASTag account.
What are the benefits of the local pass?
- Upon obtaining the pass, eligible vehicle owners can generate a digital local pass for the respective toll plaza.
- Once the pass is active, you can travel through that toll plaza multiple times over a period of one month.
- This eliminates the need to visit the toll plaza to apply for the pass.
- Online application and digital verification will save both time and effort for vehicle owners.
- Since the pass is linked to the FASTag account, regular commuting will become easier for residents.
How were local passes issued previously?
Earlier, vehicle owners had to visit the respective toll plaza in person to get a local pass issued. They were required to provide documents proving that they resided within a 20-kilometer radius of the toll plaza. Now, with the launch of this digital facility across 121 toll plazas, eligible individuals can complete the process online. The biggest advantage is that vehicle owners can now apply from the comfort of their homes.
