Major move by IRCTC: 14 apps and websites facilitating fake food deliveries on trains shut down; check the full list..
IRCTC has taken its most significant action to date against unauthorized e-catering operators that were compromising the safety and health of rail passengers. IRCTC has permanently blocked 14 major websites and mobile apps involved in the illegal delivery of food on trains and has registered criminal cases against them.
Why was this strict action taken?
According to IRCTC, these rogue apps posed a serious threat to both the health and financial security of passengers. These unauthorized entities operated unlicensed roadside eateries or kitchens, serving food without FSSAI approval. Furthermore, their staff and cooks had not undergone any medical examinations.
Under the guise of food ordering, these apps were stealing sensitive passenger information—such as PNR numbers, mobile numbers, email addresses, and credit/debit card or UPI details—thereby increasing the risk of cyber fraud. Additionally, passengers suffered financial losses when food was not delivered, and there was no customer support available to address complaints.

IRCTC has advised passengers to use only authorized services during their journeys. Passengers can safely order food via the official e-catering website (ecatering.irctc.co.in), the official 'Food on Track' mobile app, or by calling 1323.
Currently, IRCTC has partnered with major brands such as Zomato, Swiggy, Domino's, Haldiram's, and KFC. This service is available at over 400 stations across the country, and in April 2026, an average of more than 1.55 lakh safe and hygienic meals were booked daily.
