Major Decision by UP Government: Ex-Agniveers to Get 20% Reservation in These Recruitments

In a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath, a proposal was approved to provide 20% reservation to ex-Agniveers in the direct recruitment of Jail Warders and Enforcement Constables in the Transport Department.

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to expand government job opportunities for ex-Agniveers who have completed four years of military service. A proposal to grant 20% reservation to ex-Agniveers in the direct recruitment of Jail Warders and Enforcement Constables (Transport Department) was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Additionally, a decision was made to grant a special three-year relaxation in the maximum age limit. According to the government, the training, discipline, and security-related experience gained by ex-Agniveers during their service can be utilized to strengthen the state's security apparatus. Ex-Agniveers availing this reservation benefit will be counted within their original social category.

20% Reservation in Jail Warder Recruitment

As per the cabinet's decision, a 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers will apply to the direct recruitment of Jail Warders in the Prison Administration and Reform Department. Candidates who have completed four years of military service will be eligible for this reservation. Ex-Agniveers will be accommodated within the reservation quota based on their respective social categories; in other words, availing this reservation benefit will not alter their original social category status.

Benefits Also Available for Enforcement Constable Posts

Approval has also been granted for a 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers in the direct recruitment of constables in the Enforcement Department. This creates opportunities in direct recruitment across two different departments for youths returning after completing four years of military service.

Maximum Age Relaxation of 3 Years

The government has also made provisions for age limit relaxation for ex-Agniveers. Those who have completed four years of military service will receive a special relaxation of three years on the maximum age limit. Additionally, a provision has been made to deduct their four-year military service tenure when calculating their age. This will provide former Agniveers—whose options for government employment might otherwise be limited by standard age limits after completing their military service—with an additional opportunity to participate in the recruitment process.

Benefit of Military Training

The state government notes that prisons house inmates involved in serious, notorious, and sensitive cases alongside those incarcerated for ordinary offenses; consequently, security and discipline play a crucial role in prison administration. The training and security-related experience gained by former Agniveers during their military service can be effectively utilized within the prison system. Similarly, they will have the opportunity to apply their training and discipline while serving as enforcement constables in the Transport Department.
