Starting from the 2026-27 academic session, the RBSE will conduct Class 10 board exams twice a year. The objective of this new system is to provide students with an opportunity to improve their performance within the same academic year and to alleviate exam-related stress.

A significant change is coming to the Rajasthan Board’s Class 10 examinations. From the 2026-27 session, the RBSE will hold the Class 10 board exam twice annually. The aim is to give students a chance to improve their performance in the same year and reduce exam pressure. Under this system, appearing for the first exam will be mandatory, while the second exam will serve as an opportunity for improvement. A key feature of this new system is that if a student performs better in the second exam, those marks will be included in the final result; conversely, if the score in the second exam is lower, the marks from the first (better) exam will remain valid.

According to the new system, the first board exam will be held in February-March. As before, all registered regular and private Class 10 students will be required to appear for it. The first exam will cover the entire syllabus. Subsequently, the second exam will be conducted in June. This exam is intended for students who wish to improve their marks or enhance their results by retaking the test. The second exam will also cover the full syllabus.

Marks Improvement Allowed in Up to 3 Subjects

Students who pass the first exam will be eligible to take the second exam to improve their marks in up to three subjects. Students satisfied with their results from the first exam may choose not to appear for the second one. Subjects available for marks improvement include Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Vocational Education, and a third language. However, changing subjects for the second exam will not be permitted.

Result to be Determined by ‘Best-of-2’ Rule

The ‘Best-of-2’ rule will apply under the RBSE’s new system. This means that if a student scores 70 marks in a subject in the first exam and 65 marks in the second, the 70 marks will be considered for the final result. Conversely, if they score 75 marks in the second exam, that score will be included in the final result. Thus, the second exam serves as an additional opportunity for students, and appearing for it will not negatively affect the higher score obtained previously.

Abolition of the Supplementary System

The RBSE has completely abolished the old system of compartment/supplementary exams. Under the new system, students falling into the supplementary category will also have the opportunity to appear for the second exam. They can improve their performance by taking exams in up to three subjects, which may include the subjects for which they were originally placed in the supplementary category. If a student fails in up to two subjects in the first exam, they may get a chance to pass during the current academic session through the second exam. However, students who fail in three or more subjects, or who were absent, will not be permitted to take the second exam and will be required to retake exams for all subjects in the next academic session.

Opportunity for Those Absent from the Exam

Students who were absent from the first exam may also be permitted to appear for the second exam. However, this is subject to conditions such as providing a valid medical certificate or obtaining permission from the District Education Officer, depending on the specific circumstances.
