Strict action has been taken against students found guilty in a ragging case at Doon Medical College. Nine students have been expelled from the college and hostel.

Major action has been taken against students found guilty in a ragging case at Doon Medical College. Following an investigation by the Anti-Ragging Committee, the Principal issued orders. Nine senior MBBS students found guilty of ragging junior students have been expelled from the college and hostel. Seven students have been expelled from the college for one month and the hostel for three months. In addition, two accused students have been fined Rs. 50,000 each. It should be noted that on the night of January 12th, two junior students from the MBBS 2025 batch were ragged by senior students.

The allegation in the case was that the junior students who were ragged were beaten with belts. Medical College Principal Dr. Geeta Jain stated, "After the Anti-Ragging Committee's report is received, strict action will be taken against the guilty students. The Discipline Committee has recorded the students' statements and stated that indiscipline will not be tolerated in the college."

The college administration stated that if the allegations against the students are found to be true, strict action will be taken against the accused students, which may include suspension from college.

Ragging is a Serious Crime

The Supreme Court, UGC, and various state laws provide for punishment for ragging, and the penalties are quite stringent. If the allegation of ragging is found to be true, the offender may face both imprisonment and a fine. Depending on the type of ragging, the court can impose penalties ranging from two years' imprisonment to life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

The UGC is also very strict about ragging, and if such a case occurs, the offender may be fined or permanently expelled.
