The Uttar Pradesh government has adopted a strict stance regarding LPG and PNG connections. Consequently, authorities in Bareilly have permanently or temporarily disconnected the gas connections of numerous households.

Following the gas shortage in India caused by tensions in the Middle East, the central government mandated that households with PNG connections would not be eligible for LPG connections—a rule implemented across all states. The Uttar Pradesh government is now rigorously enforcing this policy. As part of this initiative, gas and PNG connections have recently been disconnected for many residents in Bareilly.

Strict measures regarding the supply of PNG (Piped Natural Gas) and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) have recently been implemented in Bareilly. Under this drive, the gas supply to approximately 1,200 households across nearly 57 colonies has been cut off.

Why was this action taken?

This action is being carried out under the 'PNG 3.0' campaign. Launched in the city on October 1, the campaign is scheduled to run until March 31, 2027. Its objective is to promote PNG connections within the city, ensuring that residents do not face gas supply issues in the future.

Connections Disconnected for 413 Households

As part of this enforcement drive, gas connections for 413 households have been permanently or temporarily disconnected due to rule violations and non-payment of dues. Meanwhile, a final warning has been issued to the remaining households. They have been granted a 90-day grace period, after which their connections will be disconnected with immediate effect. Surrender Process Yet to Begin

However, despite the government's strict measures, people have not yet started surrendering their LPG connections. Following the state's firm stance, the district administration swung into action; a few days ago, a team comprising representatives from CUGL and all LPG companies was formed, with the District Supply Officer designated as the nodal officer. This team meets every Tuesday to review progress.

It is worth noting that approximately 57 colonies in the city have already become LPG-free. The government's primary focus is to promote PNG connections across the country to reduce dependence on imported gas.
