mAadhaar: Why was there a need for a new Aadhaar app when mAadhaar already existed? Learn the ins and outs in just one click..
New Aadhaar App: UIDAI will soon be launching a new Aadhaar App, which has raised a major question among people: why is a new app needed when the mAadhaar app already exists? UIDAI clearly stated that the upcoming Aadhaar App is a completely new concept, aimed at promoting offline digital verification in the country, eliminating the practice of providing a physical Aadhaar card copy, and increasing identity security exponentially.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar provided details and explained that the new Aadhaar App will replace mAadhaar. This app will not only be new in appearance, but also includes previously unimagined features. Importantly, this app will facilitate paperless identity sharing, and Aadhaar holders will be able to decide whether they want to share their entire information or only select information.
No photocopy required, just QR code identification.
UIDAI stated that the Aadhaar Act clearly states that no entity is permitted to collect or store Aadhaar numbers or biometric data during offline verification. Despite this, hotels, event organizers, real estate societies, and many other organizations still collect and store photocopies of Aadhaar cards, which becomes a major source of data misuse.
The new Aadhaar App will eliminate this practice. In the future, identity verification will be possible by simply scanning a QR code. No entity will need to store your photo, address, or number in this process. UIDAI even stated that in the future, Aadhaar cards will only include a photo and QR code. No other details will be written, so that people cannot misuse the printed information on the card.
Aadhaar for 5 family members in a single app
UIDAI officials announced another major change. The new Aadhaar App has been designed keeping in mind the needs of a single household. Now, Aadhaar cards for up to five family members can be stored on a single mobile phone. Even if a member doesn't have a mobile phone, their identity can be easily verified.
Where will the most benefit be realized?
UIDAI explained in the webinar that the new Aadhaar app will prove extremely useful in many real-life situations. For example:
⦁ Hotel check-in
⦁ Entry into a society
⦁ Entry into an event/function
⦁ Age verification at a cinema hall
⦁ Age verification when purchasing 18+ products
⦁ Student identity verification
In all these places, there will no longer be a need to send a photocopy or send your Aadhaar card to your mobile phone. Simply show the QR code, and the system will confirm your presence through face verification.
Will the mAadhaar app be discontinued?
UIDAI clearly stated that the mAadhaar app was an early-stage app. Over time, Aadhaar usage increased, security requirements increased, and new methods of digital fraud emerged. This is why mAadhaar faced several limitations.
The new Aadhaar App will address all these issues. It will feature improved security, faster verification, and user-controlled data sharing. UIDAI says this app will work like DigiYatra, allowing user verification with a single click.
Updating data will also be easy.
People will be able to update their mobile number and address within the new Aadhaar App. This is the first time UIDAI will allow mobile number updates through face authentication.
The new rule may come into effect from December 1st.
UIDAI has announced that a key meeting on December 1st will discuss a rule that will strictly prohibit the use of photocopies of Aadhaar cards for offline verification. If this rule is passed, millions of organizations across the country will have to change their procedures.
