LPG Rules Changing from May 1st: Know the New Changes—From Booking to Delivery..
LPG Booking Rules: If you use an LPG gas cylinder in your home, this news is of great importance to you. Starting May 1, 2026, several rules related to LPG are set to change. These changes pertain to booking, delivery, and pricing—factors that will have a direct impact on the general public. Consequently, you must familiarize yourself with these regulations in advance to avoid facing any difficulties later on.
**Changes in Booking Rules**
The waiting period between booking gas cylinders has now been extended. Previously, residents in urban areas could book a new cylinder after a gap of 21 days; now, however, they will have to wait for 25 days. Meanwhile, in rural areas, this waiting period could extend up to 45 days. This implies that you will now need to plan your gas usage more carefully.
**New Delivery Regulations**
To enhance the security of gas deliveries, an OTP (One-Time Password) system has been implemented. Now, when receiving your cylinder, you will be required to share the OTP received on your mobile phone with the delivery personnel. This measure ensures that the gas reaches the intended recipient and prevents any potential irregularities.
**eKYC and Subsidy Rules**
For beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), completing Aadhaar-based eKYC has been made mandatory. If you have not yet completed your eKYC, you must do so as soon as possible. This process is a mandatory annual requirement (once per financial year) and is a prerequisite for availing of the subsidy benefits. However, those who have already completed their eKYC are not required to do so again.
**Changes in Gas Prices**
In recent times, an upward trend has been observed in the prices of LPG cylinders. The price of a domestic cylinder has increased by approximately ₹60. Concurrently, the prices of commercial cylinders have also been subject to continuous fluctuations. It is anticipated that gas prices may undergo further revisions after May 1st.
**Push Towards PNG**
The government is now gradually emphasizing a transition of households toward PNG (Piped Natural Gas). In regions where PNG pipeline infrastructure is already in place, residents may be directed to obtain a PNG connection within a specified timeframe. If a consumer fails to obtain a PNG connection within the stipulated timeframe, their LPG gas supply may be discontinued in the future.
