How Much Did Domestic Gas Cylinder Prices Rise?
In March, the price of domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) was hiked by ₹60 per cylinder. According to data from the Indian Oil Corporation, following this latest revision, the price of a 14.2-kilogram non-subsidized LPG cylinder—which is used in most households, excluding beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Scheme—has now reached ₹913 in Delhi. Additionally, the price of the 5-kilogram 'Free Trade' (FTL) cylinder also increased to approximately ₹261.
No Shortage of LPG
The government has recently clarified that there is currently no shortage of domestic LPG (cooking gas) in the country. However, due to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, there is indeed some pressure on supply chains; to manage this, several measures have already been implemented—such as extending the mandatory gap between refill bookings from 21 days to 25 days—in order to prevent hoarding. A "one home, one connection" rule has also been enforced. It is now illegal to hold both an LPG and a PNG (piped gas) connection at the same address. If your household has a PNG connection, you are required to surrender your LPG cylinder.
