Will prices rise again?
There are concerns that LPG cylinder prices in the country could rise again. Renewed military tensions between the US and Iran and the renewed blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have caused international crude oil prices to surge past $86 per barrel. This price spike has put LPG and CNG prices at risk of an increase. The Ministry of Petroleum is closely monitoring the situation.
Relief from heavy cylinders
Amidst this tense atmosphere, there is news regarding a new type of LPG cylinder: lightweight composite or fiberglass cylinders (weighing 10 kg) will soon be available in the market. These will be up to 50% lighter than traditional cylinders. This new cylinder, being introduced by HPCL, has been named 'HP Navya'. The process for ordering this will be the same as purchasing other items on quick-commerce platforms. Customers can log in to Instamart, select either the 10-kg HP Navya composite cylinder or the 5-kg metal LPG cylinder, add it to their cart, and place the order. However, the delivery of the LPG cylinder will not be like that of a standard grocery order.
