Will gas cylinder prices rise?
Global financial markets witnessed volatility on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump questioned the temporary ceasefire with Iran. Oil prices saw a sharp increase; the price of Brent crude rose by approximately 5.2% to reach $78.02 per barrel, briefly crossing the $80 per barrel mark during trading. Any significant fluctuation in international benchmark prices for crude oil and LPG impacts domestic fuel prices in India.
State-owned oil companies (IOCL, HPCL, BPCL) periodically review commercial gas prices. If price pressures mount internationally, the ₹183.50 reduction granted on July 1 could be reversed in the next review. As for domestic gas, the government strives to keep prices stable; however, if crude oil prices and under-recoveries continue to rise, the government is compelled to increase prices for this category as well.
