LPG Rate Today (July 24): The government revealed on Thursday that despite a sharp rise in international LPG prices in June due to the crisis in West Asia, a "hidden" subsidy of over ₹700 was being provided on 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders, keeping retail prices affordable for consumers. Speaking in Parliament, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi stated that the government is ensuring the burden of soaring international gas prices is not passed on to the general public.

What is the actual cost of the cylinder?

Amid global uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, the cost of a 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder has risen to over ₹1,600, yet consumers can still purchase it for ₹942. To bridge this price gap, the government and state-run oil companies are absorbing a loss of more than ₹700 per cylinder to prevent household budgets from being disrupted.

The Ministry stated that LPG prices surged globally following the outbreak of conflict in West Asia. The international benchmark for LPG prices—the Saudi Contract Price (Saudi CP)—rose to US$780 per metric tonne in April and May 2026, climbing further to US$796 per metric tonne in June. Based on these international rates, the market-determined price for a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in June stood at ₹1,695. A payment of ₹30,000 crore was also made to oil companies during the 2025-26 and 2026-27 fiscal years to cover this substantial subsidy. Double Benefit for Ujjwala Scheme Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana receive a direct subsidy of ₹300 from the government, credited straight to their bank accounts. Additionally, they receive an indirect subsidy of ₹700. Effectively, this amounts to a total benefit of up to ₹1,000 per cylinder, given that Ujjwala beneficiaries can purchase a cylinder for ₹642.

There has been no change in gas cylinder prices across the country today; rates for both domestic and commercial cylinders remain unchanged. Consequently, the price of a domestic cylinder in Delhi is ₹942, while a commercial cylinder costs ₹2,930. Similarly, in Mumbai, the prices for domestic and commercial cylinders are ₹941.50 and ₹2,882, respectively. In Bengaluru, the price of a domestic cylinder is ₹948.50, and a commercial cylinder costs ₹3,006.
