LPG Price 10 September 2026: There is welcome news for domestic LPG consumers in the country today, September 10, 2026. No changes have been made to the prices of 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinders. However, earlier this month, oil companies had raised the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders by approximately ₹9.50 to ₹11.50.

The price of domestic LPG cylinders was last revised on June 7, 2026. Since then, domestic gas prices have remained stable.

Why isn't LPG usage universal despite the Ujjwala Yojana?

Amidst the discussion on domestic gas prices, another aspect of the situation has also come to light. According to a study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), despite millions of families receiving LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), a large number of households in rural areas continue to rely on traditional fuels for cooking. The report notes that over 10.5 crore free LPG connections have been provided under PMUY. Yet, only 23 percent of rural households rely entirely on LPG for cooking; the rest use traditional fuels like wood alongside LPG.

**Continued High Usage of Wood Among Rural Households**

This CEEW survey was conducted between November 2024 and January 2025, covering 2,222 rural households across Assam, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

The study revealed that approximately 48 percent of households use LPG as their primary cooking fuel, while about 50 percent remain primarily dependent on wood.

**Requirement of 7–8 Cylinders Annually, but Only 4.8 Refilled**

A key aspect of the report concerns LPG refills. A household relying entirely on LPG would typically require an estimated 7 to 8 cylinders per year. In contrast, beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana are refilling an average of only about 4.8 cylinders annually.

This indicates that merely providing an LPG connection is not enough; the cost of regular refills remains a significant challenge for rural households. This is why many families continue to use traditional fuels like wood alongside LPG.
