When was the price of domestic LPG last changed?

The last change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders occurred in June 2026. At that time, the price of the 14.2 kg cylinder was increased by ₹29. Before that, in March, the price of domestic LPG had been raised by approximately ₹60 amidst tensions in West Asia and a surge in crude oil prices.

Commercial cylinder prices increased in September.

The price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder was increased on September 1, 2026. This hike ranged from ₹9.50 to ₹11.50 per cylinder across different cities. However, before this, on August 1, there had been a significant reduction of approximately ₹192 to ₹200 in the price of commercial LPG cylinders. Its price had also dropped by approximately ₹183.50 in July.

Why is LPG consumption declining in the country?

According to the latest data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC), domestic LPG consumption in India fell by 15.9% to 11.3 million tonnes between April and August 2026. During the same period last year, domestic LPG consumption stood at 13.4 million tonnes.

Impact of rising PNG connections on LPG

The decline in domestic LPG consumption comes at a time when the government is emphasizing the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections. Under the 'National PNG Drive,' the use of clean fuel for cooking in households is being promoted.

PNG connection holders must surrender cylinders

In view of the pressure on LPG supplies, the Ministry of Petroleum has tightened rules regarding domestic LPG cylinders for households with PNG connections. Households possessing a PNG connection are required to surrender their domestic LPG cylinders; subsequently, they will no longer be provided with LPG refills. So far, over 80,000 consumers have surrendered their cylinders.
