Why do LPG prices vary across cities?

Several factors play a crucial role in determining the retail price of a gas cylinder. These include the price of LPG in the international market, import costs, the rupee-dollar exchange rate, transportation expenses, and local taxes. Consequently, cylinder prices differ between cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, and Ranchi.

India meets a significant portion of its LPG requirements through imports; therefore, fluctuations in the international market can impact gas costs. However, changes in retail prices for domestic consumers depend on specific policy decisions.

Things to keep in mind before booking a cylinder

Before booking gas, ensure you are selecting the correct category—domestic or commercial. Additionally, check the applicable rate for your city, your subsidy eligibility, and the final amount quoted by the gas distributor. This will eliminate confusion regarding the bill and enable you to plan your monthly budget better.
