LPG News: A shortage of oil and gas had emerged in India following the outbreak of conflict between Iran and the US. Although a peace agreement has now been reached between the two nations—suggesting a potential return to normalcy—the gas supply situation in India has not yet improved. Amidst this, the government has introduced changes to the guidelines regarding LPG cylinders. Here are the details.
Guidelines from Oil Companies and Gas Agencies
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and gas agencies have recently issued an advisory for customers. It states that LPG cylinders issued to customers by OMCs remain the property of the respective companies. These cylinders are provided against a security deposit and must be used solely by the registered consumer.
Transferring is Illegal
The notice further informs customers that selling or transferring an LPG cylinder from one person to another is illegal. This means the cylinder must remain with the person in whose name it is registered; handing it over to anyone else is considered unlawful.
Listing on Other Platforms Prohibited
Another rule under these guidelines prohibits listing or selling LPG cylinders in any marketplace or on unauthorized platforms; doing so could invite legal action. Cylinders sold on such platforms may be counterfeit and pose safety risks.
For PNG Customers
Additionally, customers who have opted for Piped Natural Gas (PNG) are requested to visit their respective gas distributors and surrender their LPG connections. Upon doing so, their original security deposit amount will be refunded.
With the introduction of these guidelines, customers will need to be a bit more cautious, and oil companies and gas agencies will also face fewer difficulties in cylinder distribution.
