Lok Adalat to be held in 2 days: How many traffic challans can be settled at once?

If you have any outstanding traffic challans for your vehicle, a National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held in Delhi on October 25. Find out how many traffic challans can be settled at one time.

There is important information for motorists in Delhi. If you have pending traffic challans, you have an opportunity to get them settled, as a National Lok Adalat is being organized in Delhi on Sunday, October 25. You can visit the Lok Adalat on this day to resolve your challans. However, many people wonder: how many cases can actually be settled at once in a Lok Adalat? Is there a limit, or can any number of challans be settled?

Yes, there is a limit. You cannot settle an unlimited number of challans at the Lok Adalat. For private vehicles, there is a maximum limit of 7 cases, which includes 5 notices and 2 challans. If you are planning to participate in the Lok Adalat, it is important to first understand the difference between a 'notice' and a 'challan'.

What is the difference between a notice and a challan?

Nowadays, it is not always the traffic police who issue a challan; they are now also issued with the help of cameras installed on the roads. Notices can be issued to those who violate traffic rules, captured by CCTV cameras or red-light cameras. In such cases, the traffic police do not need to stop the driver; instead, the information is sent via an SMS to the registered mobile number or through the postal service. Therefore, for a private vehicle, a maximum of 5 such notices can be settled at one time in the Lok Adalat.

As for a 'challan'—if a driver is caught violating a traffic rule on the road, the traffic police issue a formal challan (fine/citation) to them. Please note that for private vehicles, a maximum of 7 traffic challans can be settled at once during a Lok Adalat session. This includes up to 2 challans issued by the police and 5 notices generated via traffic cameras.

Important points to keep in mind:

It is mandatory to download a token to participate in the Lok Adalat; entry into the court premises will not be permitted without it. Once you have downloaded the token, please print a copy and carry it with you to the Lok Adalat.

The Lok Adalat will be held across 7 district court complexes in Delhi, operating from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Do not forget to bring the necessary vehicle-related documents. It is advisable to gather all relevant information before heading to the Lok Adalat.
