Life Certificate: Pensioners will now be tension-free as they can submit their Life Certificate from home..

If you receive a pension from Punjab National Bank (PNB) and are 80 years of age or older, there's good news for you. The bank has announced that starting October 1, 2025, such super senior citizen pensioners can submit their annual Life Certificate. This facility has been pre-emptively introduced to save elderly pensioners from the crowds and long lines that often form in November.
What did the government say?
The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW) has directed all banks to facilitate and provide full support to pensioners aged 80 and above in submitting Digital Life Certificates (DLCs). This will ensure timely access to senior citizens' pensions and eliminate the need for frequent bank visits.
Face Authentication
Digital Life Certificates can be generated on mobile phones using the Jeevan Pramaan App. This doesn't require any device or a bank branch visit. All you need is a smartphone, camera access, and an Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
Fingerprint Verification
Pensioners can verify their identity biometrically by visiting the nearest PNB branch or Common Service Center (CSC). Bank staff or the CSC operator will generate a digital certificate on the spot. Pensioners who cannot visit the bank can submit the certificate at home through the PNB Doorstep Banking Service. This requires booking through the bank's app or customer care. A bank representative will then come to the home and perform the biometric verification.
Offline Deposit Certificate
If a pensioner wishes, they can submit a physical life certificate at any PNB branch. Valid ID and pension-related documents must be brought along. The bank official will provide a receipt for submission.
What is a Life Certificate?
The Life Certificate is an Aadhaar-based digital certificate that confirms the pensioner's survival. This certificate is generated using biometric data (fingerprint or face authentication) and is valid under the IT Act. Pensioners submit this certificate to their pension disbursing authority (bank or department) to prove that they are alive, so that their pension can continue.
