Personal Finance: LIC has announced a record bonus of ₹59,725 crore for the financial year 2025-26. Find out which policyholders will benefit from this and how the bonus is awarded.

Personal Finance: LIC, the country's largest state-owned insurance company, has shared great news for its millions of customers. The company has announced a record bonus of ₹59,725 crore for the financial year 2025-26. This is approximately 6% higher than the previous year; however, not all policyholders will receive this bonus. Therefore, it is important to know exactly who stands to benefit.

Which policyholders will receive the bonus?

This LIC bonus is exclusively for customers holding "participating" policies. Simply put, these are policies where a portion of the company's profits is distributed to policyholders as a bonus. If you hold a non-participating policy, you will not receive this bonus.

Will the bonus be credited directly to the bank account?

No, this LIC bonus is not transferred directly to your bank account. Instead, it is added to your policy. When the policy matures or a claim is settled for any reason, this bonus is included in the total payout amount.

On which policies is the bonus awarded?

Generally, bonuses are awarded on participating policies such as LIC's Endowment Plans, Money Back Plans, and Whole Life Plans. However, this also depends on the specific terms and conditions of your policy. Therefore, be sure to check your policy documents. LIC had announced a bonus of ₹56,331 crore in the previous financial year. This time, the figure has risen to ₹59,725 crore, meaning the company has provided a larger bonus to its customers this year compared to before. Additionally, the company has declared an interim bonus of ₹8,356.71 crore for FY26.

LIC’s Business Strengthens

State-owned insurer LIC continues to maintain its market dominance. In FY26, the company held a 56.66% share in terms of new premiums, while its share of total insurance policies sold in the country stood at 65.16%. LIC reports significant growth in both earnings and new business, which enabled the declaration of a record bonus this year. The company's profit from new business has risen to ₹14,179 crore.
