Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) released its results for the second quarter (July–September) of the 2026–27 financial year on November 5. The company’s net profit rose by 20% year-on-year to ₹12,115 crore. In the same quarter of the previous year, LIC had recorded a profit of ₹10,098 crore.

The company also saw a significant increase in its total premium income. During the period from July to September 2026, LIC’s net premium income grew by 16.2% to ₹1.47 lakh crore, compared to ₹1.27 lakh crore in the same period last year.

Growth in LIC’s earnings from single premiums
The primary driver behind the increase in LIC’s premium income was the 'single premium' category. Earnings from this segment rose by 34.5% year-on-year to ₹68,425 crore, up from ₹50,882 crore in the September quarter of the previous year. In a single-premium policy, the customer pays the entire premium amount in a lump sum at the time of purchase, after which they become eligible for insurance coverage or other benefits as per the policy terms. This strong growth in the single-premium category has bolstered LIC’s total premium income.

Reduction in LIC’s bad loans
Another positive development for LIC is the decline in its Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA). In the September 2026 quarter, the company’s GNPA fell to 1.16%, down from 1.21% in the previous quarter. GNPA refers to loans or investments from which payments are not being recovered as scheduled; a reduction in this figure is considered a positive sign for the company.

LIC offers a total of 60 insurance products
As of September 30, 2026, LIC’s portfolio included a total of 60 insurance products. These include 38 individual insurance products and 13 group insurance products. Additionally, the company offers 7 individual riders and 1 group rider. LIC’s ‘Smart Pension’ product is available to both individual and group customers. Consequently, in the second quarter, LIC has recorded growth in both profit and premium income. Notably, a sharp surge in earnings from single premiums has strengthened the company’s financial results.
