Lakshadweep Travel Rule Change: If you are planning a trip to Lakshadweep, there is great news for you. Lakshadweep—one of India's most beautiful and tranquil archipelagos—has now become more accessible and convenient to visit than ever before. The administration has implemented significant changes to the rules regarding entry permits for tourists, thereby greatly simplifying the travel process.

**Major Changes to Lakshadweep Travel Rules**
In a circular issued on April 29, 2026, the Lakshadweep administration announced major relaxations in the entry permit regulations for tourists. Following these new rules, traveling to and exploring the islands has become significantly easier compared to the past.

**No More Need for a Local Sponsor**
Previously, visiting Lakshadweep required sponsorship from a local individual or organization. This requirement was often considered the biggest hurdle for travelers. However, this rule has now been completely abolished, allowing tourists to apply independently without requiring any local assistance.

**Police Clearance Requirement Also Removed**
Previously, travelers were required to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from their respective home states—a process that was often time-consuming. This rule, too, has now been scrapped. Under the new system, the Lakshadweep Police will themselves conduct the necessary security checks after an application has been submitted.

**Application Must Be Submitted 14 Days in Advance**
However, certain rules remain in effect:

- It is mandatory to submit an application at least 14 days before the date of travel.
- Information regarding the specific island(s) you intend to visit must be provided in advance.
- Permission to visit will be granted only for those islands explicitly listed in the issued permit.

**Rules Regarding Transit and Travel**
- Transit facilities will be available exclusively via Kavaratti and Agatti.
- The maximum permissible transit duration is 12 hours.
- The administration strongly advises travelers to book their flight tickets only *after* they have successfully obtained their entry permit.

**Applications to Remain Strictly Online**
The process for obtaining a Lakshadweep entry permit will continue to be conducted entirely online. For this, you will need to:

- Fill in your personal details
- Upload proof of identity, such as an Aadhaar card or passport
- Submit a photograph and your travel itinerary

The permit fee is nominal, and an additional Green Tax—utilized for environmental conservation—must also be paid. Once issued, the permit is typically valid for 30 days.
