Ladli Behna Yojana: Big News About the Scheme, Some Women Will Receive Only 500 Rupees

There is bad news for the beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna Yojana in Maharashtra. The identification and scrutiny of the beneficiaries have begun, and some women will now receive only ₹500 in their accounts instead of the earlier promised amount. Let’s take a look at what the government has decided regarding this scheme.
Government Scrutiny and Adjustments to the Scheme
The Maharashtra government has started scrutinizing the beneficiaries of the Mazhya Ladli Behna Yojana. The government has identified several beneficiaries who were also receiving benefits under other government schemes. As a result, their monthly payouts under the Ladli Behna Yojana are now set to be reduced. According to government estimates, after this scrutiny, the number of beneficiaries may decrease by 10 to 15 lakh. This step is being taken to ensure transparency in the scheme and ensure that only eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance.
What’s Changing for Beneficiaries
According to media reports, Maharashtra's government has reduced the benefits for about 8 lakh beneficiaries who were already receiving the Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi (NSMN) benefits. These women, who were earlier receiving ₹1500, will now only get ₹500 per month under the Mazhya Ladli Behna Yojana. This is because they are already receiving ₹1000 under the NSMN scheme. The government is taking this step to prevent double benefits for the same individuals.
Ongoing Scrutiny Process
In October 2023, the Mazhya Ladli Behna Yojana had 2.63 crore applicants. After the scrutiny, by February, the number had reduced to 2.52 crore, and by March, it reached 2.46 crore beneficiaries. According to the Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, after the complete scrutiny, the number of beneficiaries could decrease by 10 to 15 lakh. The scrutiny process is still ongoing.
Eligibility Criteria for the Scheme
The Maharashtra government is selecting beneficiaries for the Mazhya Ladli Behna Yojana based on five key criteria:
-
The woman must be between 18 and 65 years of age.
-
She must be a resident of Maharashtra.
-
The annual family income should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh.
-
If the family owns a car or has any member employed in a government job, the woman will not be eligible for the scheme.
-
Additionally, if the woman is already benefiting from any other government scheme, she will only receive a total of ₹1500 per month from both schemes, not more.
Conclusion
The Ladli Behna Yojana in Maharashtra has undergone a series of adjustments and scrutiny, with the aim of ensuring that only the deserving beneficiaries receive the benefits. Many women will now receive a reduced amount, and the overall number of beneficiaries may decline significantly due to the identification of double benefits. Women eligible for the scheme must meet the specific criteria mentioned above.
