Ladki Bahin Yojana: Major news has emerged regarding Maharashtra's renowned "Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana" (Chief Minister's My Beloved Sister Scheme). Due to the non-completion of e-KYC, the government has temporarily suspended the accounts of approximately 6.8 million beneficiaries. The government states that the objective behind this move is to curb the misuse of the scheme. A silver lining is that women whose e-KYC could not be completed for any reason have now been granted an extension until April 30. Upon completing the verification process within the stipulated timeframe, their accounts will be reactivated.

What Do the Statistics Reveal?
According to official data, there were a total of 24.3 million accounts registered under the scheme. Following the suspension of 6.8 million accounts due to the lack of e-KYC, the number of active accounts now stands at approximately 17.5 million. This clearly indicates that a significant number of accounts had not undergone the necessary verification process.

Complaints Regarding Scheme Benefits Being Claimed by Ineligible Individuals
The state government had received numerous complaints alleging that ineligible individuals were also availing themselves of the benefits of the scheme. These individuals reportedly included men as well as certain government employees. Acting on these complaints, the government initiated a verification drive for the scheme's beneficiaries and made e-KYC mandatory.

Monthly Expenditure of ₹3,700 Crores
Under the Ladki Bahin Yojana, the government directly deposits approximately ₹3,700 crores into women's bank accounts every month. Under this scheme, every eligible woman receives financial assistance of ₹1,500 per month. With the reduction in the number of active accounts, the government also anticipates a corresponding decrease in its overall expenditure.
