Kisan Credit Card Scheme: The government's Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme is a major boon for the country's farmers, protecting them from the trap of high-interest loans. Under this scheme, farmers are provided loans at very low interest rates for agriculture, dairy farming, and animal husbandry.

If the loan is repaid on time, farmers can avail of it at an annual interest rate of just 4%. Furthermore, loans of up to ₹2 lakh are transferred directly to the bank account without requiring any collateral.

Here is an overview of the interest rates, eligibility criteria, and the application process for the Kisan Credit Card:

What is the interest rate?

The official and effective interest rates for KCC loans work as follows:

Standard Interest Rate: The initial interest rate charged by banks on KCC loans is 7% per annum.

3% Rebate: If farmers repay their loans on time, the central government provides a 3% subsidy.

Effective Interest Rate: This means that for farmers who repay on time, the loan effectively costs only 4% interest per annum.

Key Benefits of KCC

Collateral-free Loan: No land or assets need to be pledged as security for loans up to ₹2 lakh. In special circumstances, this limit can extend up to ₹5 lakh.

Flexible Repayment: Farmers can repay the loan at their convenience after the harvest and sale of crops.

Insurance Cover: KCC holders also benefit from accident insurance and crop insurance.

Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Included: Apart from crop farming, farmers engaged in dairy, poultry, and fisheries can also avail the benefits of KCC.

Who is eligible for KCC?

Farmers owning land: Farmers who have cultivable land registered in their name.

Sharecroppers and tenant farmers: Those who cultivate land owned by others.

Animal rearers and fishermen: Farmers involved in dairy or fisheries.

Age Limit: The applicant must be between 18 and 75 years of age. (For applicants over the age of 60, a co-applicant is mandatory.)
