Nowadays, a Google Account is not limited to just using Gmail; a single account grants access to Google Docs, Google Drive, and various other Google services. Payment information used for purchasing apps or games on the Google Play Store is also linked to this account. Consequently, keeping your Google Account secure is crucial. Even if someone else obtains your password, 2-Step Verification can prevent direct access to your account. Once activated, a second verification step is added alongside the password during the login process. Let’s look at how to activate 2-Step Verification to make your Google Account more secure.

2-Step Verification is a two-step process designed to secure your Google Account. It requires you to confirm your identity via an additional method after entering your password. This enhances your account's security, making unauthorized access difficult.

If your Google Account password is leaked or stolen, the account cannot be accessed using the password alone; completing the second verification step is also mandatory. This makes unauthorized access to the account difficult.

To activate 2-Step Verification, open Google Chrome or any other browser on your smartphone or PC. Tap on the profile photo visible on the screen and select the "Manage your Google Account" option.

Next, navigate to the "Security & sign-in" option in the dashboard on the left. Here, you will find the "2-Step Verification" option under the "How you sign in to Google" section. Tap on it.

After selecting 2-Step Verification, Google will ask you to enter your account password. Once you enter the password, the "Second steps" page will open, allowing you to set up your preferred secondary verification method.

Google offers several options for this second verification step. These include Passkeys and Security Keys, Google Prompt, Authenticator, phone numbers, and backup codes. Verification codes can also be generated using Google Authenticator and used as a second verification step.
