The East Central Railway (ECR) has achieved a significant breakthrough in strengthening safety measures for train operations. The Railways has now developed 'Kavach'—an indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system—to enhance train safety. A successful trial of this system was conducted at the Barauni railway station, covering a 65-kilometer rail section between Barauni–Samastipur and Barauni–Begusarai.

The trial was carried out under the guidance of the General Manager of East Central Railway, Dimpy Garg, along with the Principal Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer and the Divisional Railway Manager of Sonpur. Technical teams from the Railways, RailTel, and Quadrant played a crucial role in this process.

How was the trial conducted, and what are its key features?
During the trial, two locomotives equipped with the 'Kernex DMI' system were brought toward each other on the same track. The 'Kavach' system demonstrated exceptional operational efficiency; despite the two locomotives approaching one another, the state-of-the-art 'Kavach' technology prevented a collision.

This technology is designed to prevent potential accidents caused by human error or other factors. When necessary, the system automatically applies the brakes, ensuring the safe movement of trains.

This initiative by the Railways represents a significant step toward making rail travel more reliable, with passenger safety as the top priority.
