Kanpur Metro Shutdown: Metro services in Kanpur will remain suspended on June 28, 2026. The UPMRC has decided to halt operations for the entire day to conduct the final technical inspection of the IIT Kanpur-Naubasta corridor.

Kanpur Metro Service: Metro services in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, will remain suspended today, June 28, 2026. Passengers planning to travel are advised to plan their journeys before leaving home to avoid any inconvenience.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has taken this decision to complete the 'Final Integrated Testing' of Corridor-1, which runs from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta. It is due to this technical inspection that the decision to suspend metro operations for the day was made.

UPMRC shares information on social media

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) announced via a post on its official X handle that metro operations have been completely suspended on June 28 due to the final inspection of the entire Corridor-1 (IIT Kanpur to Naubasta).

UPMRC has urged passengers to plan their travel accordingly, keeping this suspension in mind. Following the interruption on June 28, operations will resume at 6:00 AM on June 29, 2026. Thereafter, metro trains will run normally according to their scheduled timings until 10:00 PM.

On which new routes will the metro run?

Work on expanding the metro network in Kanpur is progressing rapidly. Most of the construction on the approximately 23.5-kilometer-long Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) has been completed. Currently, metro services are operational on the roughly 15-kilometer route from IIT to Kanpur Central.

Once the metro service extends from Kanpur Central to Naubasta, city residents will gain access to seven new stations. This includes the Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Bauddh Nagar, Transport Nagar, Baradevi, Jhakar-Kati, and Naubasta stations. With this, the total number of metro stations on Corridor-1 will now reach 21.
