Central Railway is conducting an intensive ticket-checking drive from October 1 to October 31. This special drive will not be limited to the entry and exit gates of major railway stations; TTE teams will also conduct surprise inspections on platforms and inside the coaches of long-distance and local trains. If you have booked a ticket under a specific quota, railway pass, or concessional fare and assume that simply showing a confirmed ticket is enough for a hassle-free journey, take note: the Railways has clearly stated that such passengers must carry the original identity proof (Original ID) that establishes their eligibility. Failure to do so could result in a fine.

According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, ticket-checking staff will verify passengers' eligibility and ask those traveling under concessions or quotas to present their original identity proof. These checks will be carried out at railway stations as well as on local trains. In its statement, Central Railway has appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets and necessary documents and to cooperate with the ticket-checking staff to ensure a smooth journey.

**Ticket Verification via App**

Ticket-checking staff can verify the authenticity of tickets (including unreserved ones) using the TTE app whenever necessary. Passengers traveling on concessional tickets or under special reservation quotas must carry the prescribed original identity proof to substantiate their eligibility.

**Valid IDs**

Valid identity proofs include Aadhaar, Passport, PAN card, Driving License, Voter ID, Government-issued photo ID, Student ID, a bank passbook with a photograph, and a bank credit card with a laminated photograph. Passengers should carry the original documents; relying solely on photocopies or images of documents saved on a phone is not sufficient. Passengers traveling with an e-pass or Privilege Ticket Order (PTO) must carry the specified original identity proof and ensure that, prior to commencing the journey, the e-pass or PTO has been correctly converted into the requisite ‘Authority to Travel’. Passengers availing group reservations must also present the necessary documents to establish their eligibility. When a ticket is reserved for multiple individuals, at least one passenger must possess the required original identity proof.

**Increased Penalties**
Passengers unable to prove their eligibility or produce the necessary documents may face action under applicable railway regulations and could be liable to pay additional charges. Following amendments under the ‘Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026’, the minimum penalty for ticketless or unauthorized travel has been raised from ₹250 to ₹500, effective from June 20, 2026.
