Significant changes—ranging from Aadhaar and passport details to the prices of vehicles and LPG—are set to take effect from July 1, all of which will directly impact your finances.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that individuals can update their email ID in their Aadhaar records free of charge between July 1 and December 31. Previously, there was a fee of ₹75 for this service. Through this initiative, UIDAI, the body managing Aadhaar, aims to encourage people to update their latest information in the system.
**Passport Fees to Rise**
The government has increased passport issuance fees. The cost for a standard passport will now be ₹2,500, up from ₹1,500. Meanwhile, the fee for a 'Tatkaal' (expedited) passport will rise to ₹5,000 from the previous ₹3,500. These new rates come into effect on July 1.
**Cars to Become Costlier**
Several automakers have announced price hikes starting July 1, including Tata Motors, Kia Motors, MG Motor, and BMW. Tata Motors' Passenger Vehicles (PV) division has announced a price increase of up to 1.5% on its vehicles, while the Commercial Vehicles (CV) division has announced a hike of up to 2.5%. Additionally, Kia Motors and BMW have announced price increases of 2%, and MG Motor has announced a hike of up to 3%.
**Credit Card Rule Changes**
Furthermore, rules regarding several credit cards are set to change from July 1. According to reports, SBI Card has modified the reward point structure for select 'PhonePe SBI Cards.' Under these changes, new limits have been imposed, and certain types of transactions have been excluded from the reward point category. Meanwhile, HDFC Regalia Gold credit cardholders will now be able to access domestic airport lounges for free three times each calendar quarter; however, to avail of this benefit, they must spend a minimum of ₹60,000 per quarter.
