JNVST 2027: Class 6 Admissions Open at Navodaya Vidyalaya; Apply by July 31 – Who Is Eligible?
The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has initiated the application process for Class 6 admission under JNVST 2027. Eligible students currently studying in Class 5 can apply until July 31, 2026.
If your child is currently studying in Class 5 and you wish to enroll them in a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, there is good news for you. The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has started accepting online applications for Class 6 admission under JNVST 2027. Interested parents and students can apply by visiting the official website.
The deadline for applications is July 31, 2026; no applications will be accepted after this date. The entrance exam is scheduled for November 28, 2026. The entire admission process is expected to conclude by August 2027.
Who Can Apply?
Only students currently studying in Class 5 at a recognized school during the 2026-27 academic session are eligible to apply for this entrance exam. Additionally, the student must have completed their Class 3, 4, and 5 studies at a recognized school.
Candidates must be permanent residents of the district where they seek admission to the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Students studying in a school in a neighboring district may apply only if their school is located within a 10-kilometer radius of their home. Applications submitted for the wrong district will be cancelled later, even if the student is selected.
Applicants must have been born between May 1, 2015, and July 31, 2017. Students who have already passed Class 5 or are repeating Class 5 are not eligible for this exam. Furthermore, the JNVST exam can be taken only once.
How will seat reservation work?
At least 75% of the seats in Navodaya Vidyalayas will be reserved for students from rural areas. For the remaining seats, students from both rural and urban areas will be selected based on merit. Additionally, reservations will be provided to SC, ST, and OBC categories in accordance with government regulations. Furthermore, at least one-third of the seats will be reserved for girl students. Differently-abled students will also receive the benefit of reservation as per the rules.
What will the exam be like?
The entrance exam will be conducted offline using OMR sheets. It will consist of 80 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) carrying a total of 100 marks. Questions will cover Mental Ability, Environmental Studies (EVS), Arithmetic, and Language. Each correct answer will earn 1.25 marks, and—most reassuringly—there will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. The duration of the exam will be two hours. To be selected, students must secure the prescribed minimum marks in Mental Ability and EVS, as well as the required minimum marks in the other subjects.
