JEE Main 2027: Relief for NRI Students; Applications Now Possible Using Passports
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has provided significant relief to students residing abroad. NRI candidates who do not possess an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or driving license can now complete their application using their passport.
The application process for the January session of the JEE Main 2027 engineering entrance examination is currently underway. In this context, the NTA has offered a major concession to students of Indian origin living abroad, as well as other candidates. Those—including NRIs—who lack an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or driving license may now use their passport as proof of identity to complete their application. In response to a query raised by an NRI student on social media, the NTA clarified that a passport can indeed be used to fulfill the application requirements. This move by the agency provides substantial relief to both international and Indian candidates who were previously facing difficulties with registration due to a lack of standard identification documents.
'Meri Pehchan' and Re-KYC Mandatory
According to official instructions issued by the NTA, it is mandatory to log in via the 'Meri Pehchan' portal to register for JEE Main 2027. Candidates can log in by selecting one of three primary platforms: DigiLocker, e-Praman, or Jan Parichay. The agency has advised students to complete the 'Re-KYC' process through DigiLocker. Furthermore, the name and date of birth provided in the application form must exactly match the details recorded on the candidate's Class 10 certificate.
Option to Submit a New Application to Correct Errors
In a separate notice, the NTA has introduced another helpful provision for candidates. If a student has made an error or entered incorrect information in a previously submitted form, they are permitted to submit a fresh application. Upon submission of this new form, the student will be issued a new application number. However, the examination fee already paid will neither be refunded nor adjusted against a new form. For students who need to make only minor corrections, a correction window will be available from November 27 to November 29, 2026.
