ITR Refund Delay: The last date for filing Income Tax Returns was September 16th, but a large number of taxpayers are still waiting for their refunds. Many are checking their bank accounts daily, but haven't received the refund credit message. If this is happening to you, simply waiting won't suffice. You need to understand why your ITR refund hasn't arrived yet. So, let's tell you today what mistakes you might be making if your ITR refund hasn't been processed yet.
Cases of those whose refunds haven't arrived may be under scrutiny
Usually, refunds are issued within a few weeks of filing and verification. This time too, many taxpayers have received their refunds, but those whose refunds haven't arrived yet may have their cases under investigation. Some time ago, CBDT Chief Ravi Agarwal had stated that this time, the system has red-flagged high-value refunds and cases with suspicious claims. Such returns are being investigated thoroughly, which is why the refund process appears slow. However, refunds for smaller amounts are being issued without delay. Ravi Agarwal said that normal refunds will be cleared by December, provided there are no errors in your return.
Biggest mistakes causing delays in ITR refunds
In most cases, the reason for the delay in refunds is not a technical glitch but rather mistakes made during filing.
Incorrect bank details - If you made a mistake in the account number or IFSC code while filing your ITR, your ITR refund may be delayed. Name Mismatch - If there is a mismatch in the name on your PAN card and bank account, your refund may be delayed.
Bank Account Not Pre-Validated - The ITR refund is only credited to the bank account that is pre-validated on the portal. If your account is not pre-validated, your refund may be held up.
PAN-Aadhaar Not Linked - If your PAN card is not linked to your Aadhaar card, your ITR refund may be stopped.
Incorrect Claims - If you have made a mistake in tax calculation or claimed deductions that are not valid, the department may withhold your refund and conduct an investigation.
