The last date for filing the Income Tax Return (ITR) is near. Even before the deadline of September 15, people have become restless. The reason is the problems with the portal and the slow filing speed. In such a situation, the question arises whether the government will extend the deadline?

According to the portal of the Income Tax Department, out of a total of 13.35 crore registered users, only 4.89 crore people have filed ITR till September 7. Out of these, 4.63 crore returns have been verified, and only 3.35 crore have been processed. This means that a large number of people are still left.

Many business and professional organizations of the country have appealed to the CBDT to extend the deadline. They say that the portal is repeatedly slowing down, there is a problem with logging in, and the system shuts down automatically. Due to which they are facing many problems.

Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and CAAS said that this year, the ITR software came late, and it is becoming very difficult to follow the rules. At the same time, BCAS (Bombay Chartered Accountants Society) has also written a letter demanding extension of the deadline for ITR filing, tax audit, and transfer pricing.

What are the complaints?

Errors in AIS, TIS, and Form 26AS on the portal

Financial data is not correct.

More paperwork due to new rules

The portal is slow and not able to log in during peak time.

The country's Tax Bar Association said that if there is an error in the financial information, it will be difficult to file the correct return.

Why is there concern?

At present, the deadline is fixed for September 15, and it applies only to those who do not need an audit. But the slow pace of filing and constant technical problems have put taxpayers under stress. Now all eyes are on the CBDT whether people will be given relief at the last moment or the deadline will remain as it is.
