Is your salary less than ₹25,000? Find out about the changes in EPFO pension rules.
The EPFO has revised the rules for employees earning up to ₹25,000. According to the EPFO, it is not mandatory for these employees to become members of the pension scheme. Let us understand the updated rules.
The EPFO (Employees' Provident Fund Organisation) was established to secure the future of employees. Under this organization, a portion of an employee's salary is deposited into an EPFO account—keeping their future in mind—which serves them after retirement. EPFO rules undergo changes over time; for instance, on September 17, the government raised the PF wage ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.
Following this, the EPFO recently clarified how much would be deducted from the accounts of employees earning ₹25,000 and whether or not they are eligible for PF.
Will employees earning ₹25,000 be part of the EPFO?
The EPFO recently shared a post on its official X account clarifying whether employees earning ₹25,000 are eligible for EPS membership.
#EPFO #EPFOWithYou #HumHainNa #EPS https://t.co/kecIkZjzyp

The post states: "Dear employees, do check your EPS pension eligibility! If your monthly salary is ₹25,000 or less, EPS membership is mandatory based on eligibility criteria. If your monthly salary exceeds ₹25,000, EPS membership is not mandatory."
Rules changed recently
It is worth noting that on September 17—coinciding with Vishwakarma Jayanti—the EPFO announced that the EPF wage ceiling had been raised from ₹15,000 per month to ₹25,000 per month. The government implemented this change in view of rising inflation. However, for employees earning above the new wage ceiling, EPS rules depend on their existing membership status. Meanwhile, clarity regarding the rules for lower-wage earners has also been issued.
