Power Bank Warning Signs: A power bank is an essential accessory that can save you in a bind; however, if you encounter issues like overheating or strange odors while using it, you should stop using it immediately.

Power Bank Warning Signs: Most power banks use lithium-ion batteries. These batteries do not fail suddenly; they usually provide several warning signs beforehand. These signs indicate that the battery is failing and the power bank needs to be replaced. Generally, a failing power bank exhibits six specific signs. If you notice any of these signs, it indicates battery failure, and you should consider replacing the unit.

Watch Out for These Signs

Swelling – Swelling in the power bank is the most serious warning sign. When the liquid electrolyte inside the battery begins to break down, flammable gases are generated. Since the power bank is a sealed unit, the gas has nowhere to escape. The resulting pressure causes the power bank's casing to swell. Stop using the device in such a situation. Do not attempt to puncture the casing to release the gas; doing so can be dangerous.

Overheating – It is normal for a power bank to get slightly warm during use, but if it starts heating up when idle or overheats significantly during use, it should be treated as a warning sign. This issue usually arises due to a malfunction in the protection circuit. If your power bank starts exhibiting this problem, you should stop using it.

Burning Smell – If you detect a chemical or burning odor while using the power bank, it indicates a problem. Such odors often result from damaged internal insulation or a short circuit. Therefore, do not ignore this; stop charging or discharging the power bank immediately.

Visible Damage – Physical damage to the power bank can be hazardous. If you notice cracks, dents, or similar signs of damage, handle the device with caution. Dents on the section housing the battery are more dangerous than those on the corners. Stop using the device if it begins to overheat after sustaining damage.

Changes in Charging Behavior – If a fully charged battery drains suddenly, or if the power bank repeatedly turns on and off, it indicates that the device needs to be replaced.
