According to reports, the message claims that the government will monitor user activity, calls, and messages on WhatsApp, as well as on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Furthermore, it alleges that users will be notified of government surveillance and potential legal action through a system of new, color-coded tick marks.

For your information, this fake message lists 11 "rules," including warnings against sending political messages and claims about arrests without a warrant. It also urges recipients to share the message with friends and family.

The Press Information Bureau's (PIB) Fact Check Unit has clarified the situation regarding this viral claim. Through its official X handle, PIB Fact Check stated that the message is completely fake. According to the PIB, the Government of India has not issued any such new guidelines regarding the monitoring of WhatsApp.

Additionally, the government has appealed to the public not to blindly trust such claims circulating on social media. Most such claims are false; therefore, one should verify the facts thoroughly before reacting to any message.
