These days, cases of online fraud and fake SIM cards are increasing rapidly. Often, someone else activates a mobile SIM card using a fake Aadhaar card or identity card.

In today's digital age, mobile numbers have become a crucial part of our identity. Our mobile number has become our identity everywhere, be it banking, social media, or online shopping. Along with this, cases of online fraud and fake SIM cards are also increasing rapidly.

Sometimes, someone else activates a mobile SIM card using a fake Aadhaar card or identity card, without the real ID holder even knowing about it. If that SIM is later used for illegal purposes, the person faces trouble. So, let's learn today how to find out if someone is using a fake SIM card in your name.

How to check for a fake SIM card?

To address this issue, the Indian government has created a dedicated website, TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection). Using this portal, you can find out in just one minute how many and which SIM cards are active in your name. Knowing how many SIM cards are active in your name is crucial because if someone activates a SIM card using your ID and uses it for illegal purposes, you could be held accountable. You could be implicated in a fraud or scam. Having multiple SIM cards active without your knowledge increases data and privacy risks. Furthermore, a maximum of nine SIM cards can be activated per ID.

How to find out how many SIM cards are active in your name in just one minute

1. First, go to your mobile or laptop browser and open the website https://tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in/

2. A box will then appear on the home page. Enter your mobile number.

3. Enter the captcha code below and click Validate Captcha.

4. An OTP will be sent to your mobile number. Enter it and login.

5. After logging in, you will see a list of all the mobile numbers linked to your ID.

What to do if a number isn't yours?

If you see a number in the list that you don't recognize or that you didn't use, select the "Not My Number" option next to that number, then click the "Report" button. After submitting your complaint, you will receive a ticket ID or reference number. Your complaint will be investigated, and if necessary, the fake SIM will be deactivated or removed from your ID.
