Do you really have to endure long queues just to change the old mobile number registered with your bank? Discover an easy way to get this done in moments from the comfort of your home using net banking or an ATM.

Having the correct mobile number linked to your bank account is essential. Alerts regarding withdrawals or deposits, transaction OTPs, and UPI-related information are all sent to this number. If your old number has been deactivated or you have acquired a new SIM card, it is crucial to update the number in your bank records. Otherwise, you might miss important alerts and face difficulties while using online banking or payment apps.

In the past, updating a mobile number required a visit to the bank branch. However, the banking sector has evolved significantly, and banks now offer customers the convenience of updating their numbers from home without visiting a branch. Whether you hold an account with SBI, ICICI, or HDFC, you can easily update your new number from the comfort of your home. Let us explain how you can conveniently change your mobile number without having to deal with long bank queues.

How to change your number via Net Banking and Apps

If you wish to change your registered mobile number from home, net banking and the bank's official mobile app are the easiest options available to you. First, log in to your bank's net banking website using your User ID and password. Next, navigate to the 'Profile' section or the 'Personal Details' option, where you will find the facility to update or change your mobile number.

Once you enter your new mobile number, an OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to both your old and new numbers. For security reasons, banks verify both numbers to prevent anyone else from committing fraud against you. As soon as you enter the OTP, your new mobile number is instantly updated in the system, and all bank alerts begin arriving on the new number immediately.

You can also update via an ATM

It often happens that people forget their net banking passwords or are unable to navigate the online process. For such individuals, an ATM is a convenient option. Simply visit a nearby ATM belonging to your bank and swipe your debit (ATM) card. Next, enter your secret PIN and select the 'Banking' or 'Services' section from the options displayed on the screen.

There, you will find an option labeled 'Mobile Number Registration' or 'Change Mobile Number.' Upon selecting it, the machine will prompt you to enter the new mobile number and then ask you to re-enter it for confirmation. Subsequently, an OTP will be sent to both your old and new numbers; entering this OTP on the ATM screen completes the process of updating your number.

What if the old number is inactive?

Online update processes often rely on the old number, debit card, or an OTP to verify the account holder's identity. If you no longer possess the old SIM card or the number has been deactivated, the available options will depend on your bank's specific policies. First, contact official customer care to inquire if the update can be performed via an ATM or another digital method. If the bank requires an OTP sent to the old number—which is no longer active—you may need to visit your bank branch in person for verification.
