Must check if your train ticket was booked from the correct source?
IRCTC issued a very important alert for train passengers on Monday, October 13, 2025, on its official X handle. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) issued the alert, advising passengers to be vigilant of fake agents. Some fake agents are defrauding people. They are booking train tickets using personal user IDs, which is completely wrong and illegal.
How to avoid fake agents?
To avoid this fraud, IRCTC has provided passengers with some easy ways to check whether their train ticket has been booked from the correct source. If you booked your ticket from a registered agent, the agent's name, address, and agency code will be clearly written on the first page of the ticket. If the ticket is marked "Normal User" at the top, it means it was booked using a personal user ID. This means the booking was not made by a registered agent. Furthermore, registered agents cannot book tickets for the first 30 minutes before Tatkal tickets open and for the first 10 minutes before Advance Reservation tickets open. If an agent is booking tickets during this time, beware of fraud. IRCTC has appealed to passengers to always book tickets through the official website or app and avoid any unrecognized agents.

How to check if an agent is registered before booking?
Always use only IRCTC's official website www.irctc.co.in or the IRCTC mobile app to book tickets. If you want to book tickets through an agent, be sure to check that they are registered with IRCTC. You can view the full list of agents on the IRCTC website.
Dos and Don'ts for Safe Travel?
If you book a ticket through a fake agent, you may face many problems. In such a case, the ticket may be cancelled. The agent may overcharge or your personal information may fall into the wrong hands. To ensure a safe and stress-free journey, always follow the correct procedures prescribed by IRCTC and be wary of any unidentified agents.
