IRCTC e-pantry service launched: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has now launched an e-pantry service on mail and express trains. Addressing passenger complaints about overpriced food, poor quality, or unauthorized vendors, the Railways has expanded this digital meal booking system. With the launch of this service, passengers will no longer face food and beverage problems. Let's explain why the Railways launched this service and how it will work.

IRCTC Launches e-Pantry Service
Previously, this service was limited to a few premium trains, but now the Railways has started implementing it on long-distance mail and express trains as well. Initially, the service was launched on 25 trains. Based on passenger feedback and positive results, it will be expanded to other trains.

What is the e-Pantry Service?
The e-Pantry is a digital food booking system integrated with the IRCTC ticketing system. This service allows passengers to select and book their meals online. The primary objective is to provide clean, high-quality food and Rail Neer (water) to passengers while booking a ticket or after it is confirmed.

Starting as a Pilot Project
The e-pantry service has been implemented as a pilot project on Vivek Express (22503/04), one of the country's longest-distance trains. According to officials, if the project is successful, it will be expanded to more trains. Passengers with confirmed, RAC, and partially confirmed tickets can avail of this service.

How to book online?
Passengers can select the e-pantry option while booking tickets on the official IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in). Food can also be booked from the 'Booked Ticket History' section after the ticket is confirmed. Authorized pantry car staff will deliver your food to your seat as soon as the order is confirmed. The entire process is digital and transparent, reducing the possibility of payment and delivery errors.
