Insurance Tips: Why does an insurance claim get rejected? What things should be kept in mind while buying a policy?
Today insurance has become an important part of our lives. Awareness about it has also increased a lot. Now people have started insuring things like home and shop along with life and health. This secures the financial future of the family. However, many people complain that insurance companies hesitate to give insurance claims. Many times they even reject the claim.
Let us know why insurance companies reject claims and what to do to avoid claim rejection. Also, where to complain if the claim is rejected in the wrong way.
Reasons for insurance claim rejection
Shashikant Dahuja, Chief Underwriting Officer of Shriram General Insurance, says that if you have given any wrong information while taking an insurance policy, then there is a possibility of your claim being rejected. Therefore, information like age and health should be filled in carefully and it should be cross-checked. If you have any health-related problems, then that should also be disclosed. Also, the premium of the insurance policy should be paid on time, so that the policy does not lapse.
What to do to avoid claim rejection
Many people are careless while taking an insurance policy. Dahuja says that before taking a policy, you should evaluate what you need protection for. Be it your health, home, car, or business, so that you can ensure that you get reasonable coverage. Many times people leave important coverage in the pursuit of a cheap policy, which later causes them loss. You should also compare the policy and claim settlement while taking an insurance claim.
What to do if the claim is rejected
It is very disappointing to get an insurance claim rejected. Now some steps can be taken in this situation. Dahuja of Shriram General Insurance says that first of all the rejection letter of the insurance company should be read carefully. If the claim is rejected due to any missing or incomplete information, then you can correct it and submit the claim again. On the other hand, if the claim is rejected for any wrong reason, then you should contact the insurance company. If the company does not listen to you, you can also appeal against it to the insurance regulator – the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) with all the evidence.
