Indian Railways No Waiting Policy: There's big news for train travelers. Currently, people book their seats in advance and assume their assigned seat is guaranteed. However, the railways are soon going to implement a new rule regarding seat allocation, under which your seat could be given to someone else if you don't arrive at your designated boarding station. Let's learn more about this in detail:

What happened until now?
Currently, if a passenger does not board the train at their boarding station, the TTE (Ticket Examiner) waits for them until the next station. If the passenger still doesn't arrive there, their seat is then given to passengers on the waiting list or those with RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets. This process takes a considerable amount of time, and sometimes the seat remains empty for a long period.

What will change now?
Under the new system, TTEs will no longer wait until the next station. As soon as it becomes clear during ticket checking that the passenger has not boarded at the boarding station, the TTE will immediately mark the seat as 'Not Turned Up' in the system. The seat will then be immediately allotted to a passenger with a waiting list or RAC ticket.

Most importantly, the information about the seat allocation will be sent directly to the passenger's mobile phone. This will eliminate the need for passengers to repeatedly inquire with the TTE.

Why is the railway making this change?
The purpose of this change is to ensure the proper and complete utilization of every seat on the train. According to the railways, approximately 3 to 5 percent of seats remain empty on every train. This is because some passengers cancel their journeys or do not reach the station on time. The new system will allow these empty seats to be immediately given to needy passengers.

Railway officials believe that this step will further strengthen the railway's digital and modern system. This will not only benefit passengers but also reduce disorganization inside the train.

In short, if you travel by train, arriving late could cause you problems. If you don't arrive at your designated boarding station on time, your seat could be given to someone else. Also, the facility to change the boarding station is available only up to 24 hours before the chart is prepared. After that, neither the boarding station can be changed nor is boarding allowed from any other station.

Overall, this new rule is a relief for waiting list and RAC passengers, but those with confirmed tickets will now have to plan their journeys more carefully.
