Railways Ticket Booking: Indian Railways has made a major change for passengers. Now, there will be no additional fee for changing travel dates. Tickets will be changed based on seat availability on the new date, and if the fare is higher, only the difference will be paid.

Railways Ticket Booking: Indian Railways is making a major change to ticket booking rules for passenger convenience. Passengers will no longer need to cancel their tickets and book a new one to change their travel dates. Under the new system, passengers will be able to change their travel dates without any additional fees or penalties. This move will provide relief to millions of passengers who previously faced significant financial losses due to sudden changes in plans.

Existing rules caused inconvenience to passengers.

Previously, if a passenger wanted to change their travel date, they had to cancel their ticket and book a new one. This process wasted both time and money. Under current railway rules:

Ticket cancellations between 48 and 12 hours before travel are subject to a 25% fare deduction.

This deduction increases further for cancellations between 12 and 4 hours before departure.

No refund is provided after the travel chart is prepared.

This system was increasing the financial burden on passengers. Often, people had to pay the full fare again just to change a date.

What will change in the new system?

Under the new policy, the Railways will allow passengers to change their travel dates without any penalty. However, this will depend entirely on seat availability.

If a seat is available on the new date, the ticket will be changed accordingly. However, if the fare for that day is higher, the passenger will have to pay the difference. However, if the fare for the new date is lower, the remaining amount will be adjusted or refunded. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav stated that "confirmed tickets will not be guaranteed, as they will depend on seat availability. However, this facility will ensure passengers do not incur additional charges even if they change their plans."

Major Relief for Passengers

This initiative by the Railways will prove to be extremely beneficial for passengers. They will no longer have to endure the hassle of canceling tickets or booking new ones. This will save both time and money. According to experts, this facility will be especially beneficial for official travelers, students, and business travelers whose plans frequently change.

New Railway Board Directive

Furthermore, the Railway Board has strictly instructed all zones to conduct a traffic study before starting work on any new project. Only after this will the Final Location Survey (FLS) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) be prepared. The Board has found that many zones have not followed this procedure, leading to project delays and budgetary imbalances.

According to the Railway Ministry, this facility will be rolled out in a phased manner on the IRCTC platform. This will then be extended to offline ticket counters as well.

With this new system, the Railways will move towards providing a more digital, transparent, and flexible travel experience to passengers.
